Sensual Studio Adventures: Day 3

Wednesday the 16th of June:

‘Tag drei’ started with an interview for Radio 6. They have been following us from the moment we started writing our third album and wanted to know how the recordings are progressing. We will keep them up-to-date about everything that is happening. Be sure to tune in to Radio 6. We had a bit of a slow start today in the studio because of technical difficulties. So, we waited,  wrote a blog, waited, uploaded a vídeo, waited... and waited some more. For those who want to know why we had to wait: a couple of pre-amps failed! All is fixed now and we started recording our third song. Yiehoe!

I’ve arrived at the point to where I cannot hear the song we are currently working on anymore (At least not for a couple of hours). We played like 10 takes (which feels like 10.000) and the energy is floating all over the place. Now finally, a few coffees and a great football match later the song is blasting out of the speakers. We did it!

Ready for song number four. This is ‘Tabuleiro verde’ (Green chessboard). For this song Gijs plays some amazing ‘udu’, which is a vase-shaped Nigerian percussion instrument so fragile he left it in the car for days. We are sitting here now, being hypnotized by the sound of the song. It’s 22h30, we’re done for today, the song turned out amazing (I’m not shy to say this) and we’re going to grap some Eritrean food which has been waiting for us.

Bon appetit e boa noite!

Sensual Studio Adventures: Day 2

Tuesday the 15th of June

‘Porto Seguro’ (Safe Harbour), our first song is a wrap and it sounds beautiful. Ricky (our engineer) really makes the music come even more alive. He’s a true magician. After that we recorded ‘Trinta Trinta’ (Thirty Thirty) a song for all of you out there who is struggling with the age of 30 (and above). Of course this is an autobiographical song, as both Emiel and I (Eva) turned thirty last year : ). For this song we got inspired by the music of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti. We needed some time to find the right energy for this song but eventually we nailed it. Vocals, over-dubs, solo's and a hornsection need to be added later but the base is there.

Sensual Studio Adventures: Day 1 (part 2)

Monday the 14th of June

We already feel at home at the SUPOW studio. Ricky (our engineer) arranged an amazing Eritrean chef for us. We’ve hired him for 2 days but we’d love to have him cook for us everyday, hopefully he has got the time. The food was sooo good we even forgot he was two and a half hours late ;). Ofcourse we didn't only eat today. We've worked really hard and the first song has been recorded. It still needs overdubs and a vocal take but we will do all this tomorrow as we’ve been here for 13hours and need a good night sleep. So, more news, photos and videos tomorrow. Bom sonhos!

Sensual Studio Adventures: Day 1 (part 1)

Monday 14th of June

Sun is shining, birds are whisteling, Cologne has awaken and we are getting there. A few slices of ‘Sauerteig’ (zuurdesembrood) and the best ‘Latte macchiato’ I ever tasted (made by studio assistent Simon) later and Sensuàl is awake. Ready to kick some ass in Supow!
